For Poorva, documentaries are cinematic tools to understand ourselves and the world around us. She likes borrowing elements from cinema to make engaging narratives and popularize non-fiction in India so that the pursuit to find the truth has a larger audience.Poorva likes making documentaries that stay with audiences, and trigger introspection. 

Poorva’s career as a documentary filmmaker started when she started documenting everyday lives of people across the country in form of audio interviews. Wanting to do more in the visual space, Poorva made India’s first feature length documentary on contemporary Indian drag queens “Haus of Maya”. Poorva also works as an independent editor, and her latest documentary as an editor (Mrs Nambiar: more than just a teacher) has won multiple awards in the “Best Short Documentary” Category in various film festivals.
