Bio
Mat Hames is an American independent filmmaker known for the PBS documentary series Power Trip: the Story of Energy, as well as his two Independent Lens documentaries When I Rise and What Was Ours, featured on HBO's Last Week Tonight With John Oliver. His film Fossil Country was nominated for a national News and Doc Emmy. He was knighted by King Albert II for his documentary film about Belgian Resistance escape lines in World War II Last Best Hope. He directed the Rooster Teeth RTDocs Series including Common Ground, Waiting for the Punchline, and The Meme Machine. He is a founder of Austin documentary production company Alpheus Media. Hames has also directed short films for The Economist, The Atlantic, Warner Bros., and Johns Hopkins, as well as museum films including the LBJ Presidential Library, and Global NGOs including Partners in Health and World Vision.
