Bio

John S. Fisher is a documentary editor & filmmaker. In 2024 he was selected for DocNYC’s 40 under 40 list of emerging documentary talent. His work includes the 2023 Academy Award shortlisted film “Stamped From the Beginning” directed by Roger Ross Williams. The film, which premiered at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival, was nominated for an Emmy award for outstanding merit in documentary film, and a Critics Choice Award for best documentary feature. John was nominated for Best editing in a documentary film at the 2023 Woodstock film festival for his work on “Stamped From the Beginning”.

John also worked as an editor on the 2019 Academy Award shortlisted documentary feature film “The Apollo”.

The film, which premiered as the opening night film for the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival went on to win a Primetime Emmy for outstanding documentary feature in 2020.

His other work includes the documentary series for Apple TV+ “The Supermodels”, the feature documentary for HBO, “Love to Love You, Donna Summer”, the Peabody award winning and NAACP Image Award nominated series “High on the Hog”, the Netflix series “The Innocence Files”, and the documentary short “Take Back the Harbor”. 

John’s work has been shown around the world and screened in festivals including IDFA, Berlin, Tribeca, and TIFF.
