Dawn Mikkelson Pro

Frequent contributor for Twin Cities PBS (TPT), multi-Emmy Award winning producer, and 2010 McKnight Filmmaking Fellow, Dawn Mikkelson’s work has broadcast and screened internationally. Festival screenings include: the Galway Film Fleadh, Cinequest, Camden International Film Festival, Cambridge Film Festival, DocuFest Atlanta, Leipzig DOK Market, American Indian Film Festival, Planet in Focus, and Washington DC Environmental Film Festival. Mikkelson has completed five award-winning independent feature documentaries, The Red Tail, Green Green Water, THIS obedience, and Treading Water: a documentary, which illuminate larger societal issues while creating understanding through the intimate stories of individuals. Her fifth feature documentary Risking Light was listed as one of the top 10 films at the 2018 Cinequest Film & VR Festival and received broadcast distribution through APT (American Public Television) and the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation). Mikkelson is currently in late post-production on Minnesota Mean and Finding Her Beat, two follow documentaries celebrating powerful women.

A former television news reporter at an ABC affiliate, Mikkelson has taught Documentary Film as Adjunct Faculty at Ottawa University in Kansas, as well as at Film North. Most recently she served as Broadcast Content Manager at WDSE|WRPT in Duluth, MN. Over her time at WDSE the station and its productions quadrupled their Upper Midwest Regional Emmy Award Nominations including the coveted Governor’s Award, and received national acclaim by NAJA (Native American Journalist Association).
