Bio
Celene Beth Olsen is an investigative filmmaker, producer, and podcast host dedicated to subverting true crime tropes through a rigorous, female-led lens.
As the creator of the high-impact podcast True Crime & Hollywood: A Personal Tale, she deconstructs the systemic intersection of entertainment and trauma, facilitating unfiltered dialogues that examine the human cost of the true crime genre. Her extensive background in unscripted television includes producing for major franchises such as In Pursuit with John Walsh, The Playboy Murders, and The Real CSI: Miami.
Her filmmaking perspective was forged over a decade with the Sundance Institute. Her experience as a seasonal associate for the festival and her work volunteering with the Documentary Film Program sparked a commitment to film as a tool for social complexity. This foundation, combined with her role as a Certified Mental Health Coordinator, selected for the Association of Mental Health Coordinators’ second-ever global cohort, allows her to merge high-level production expertise with specialized trauma-informed practice. She is one of only 45 professionals globally trained in this capacity to protect the well-being of participants and crews, ensuring the creative process is as ethical as the final product.
Celene’s latest short film, The Sundance Kid, is a visceral meditation on the evolution of a Latine filmmaker. Captured entirely on iPhones over several years, the film reflects a landscape where participants are reclaiming their narratives as architects of their own stories. Whether through her broad investigative work or her upcoming feature K*lling Theodore, a definitive deconstruction of the Ted Bundy media empire, Celene is establishing an ethical blueprint for a genre that honors human dignity over sensationalism.
