Annette Danto Pro

Annette Danto is a filmmaker, author and Chair of the Brooklyn College Undergraduate Film Department. She is the former Chair of the Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema. Her award winning films have exhibited nationally and internationally, and have screened at film festivals throughout the world. 

Recently completed feature documentary, Dindigul Diaries, www.dindiguldiaries.com tells the stories of four families living in the Dindigul Region of Tamil Nadu, India.

Annette Danto is Co-Author of Think/Point/Shoot, (Routledge 2016). https://www.routledge.com/Think-Point-Shoot-Media-Ethics-Technology-and-Global-Change/Danto-Hashmi-Isabel/p/book/9781138847965  The book is about ethics for media-makers. It is divided into preproduction, production, post production and distribution - and is specifically written for all who make movies, documentaries, narratives and new media. A must read for media/communication/journalism students.

Annette Danto has been a professor at Brooklyn College, CUNY, Film Department since 1997. She is the founding director of the Brooklyn College India: Documentary Production Program http://studyabroad.brooklyn.cuny.edu/india/Welcome.html,  Brooklyn College Documentary Production in Bangor, Wales (2018), and Cuba: Smartphone Documentary Workshop (2019). She is a three-time awarded Fulbright Scholar in Filmmaking, and a twice awarded Tow Faculty Fellow. Recent guest lectures include: British Film Institute (2015), Bangor University, Wales (2015), Daniel Pearl Film Festival (2015). 

Danto has received grants from USAID, UNIFEM, USIEF, Cinecom, Ted Turner Foundation, Gates Foundation, Eastman Foundation, Tow Foundation. She has directed films as part of educational outreach campaigns in West Africa for the United Nations Development Fund for Women, and in India for the Gandhigram Institutions and Pathfinder International. Danto has a BA magna cum laude from McGill University (1980), an MS from Columbia University (1982), and an M.F.A. from the New York University's Maurice Kanbar Tisch School of the Arts Program in Film, Television and New Media.
