Charmo

Nearly 10,000 years ago in the hills of Northern Iraq, at a place called Charmo, nomads began settling in small villages, domesticating animals, and collecting wild grass seeds to re-plant the coming years; this is where the world's agriculture began. Farming and rural life in Iraq thrived for centuries, exporting crops around the world. Today the country cannot feed itself, heavily relying on imports from neighboring countries and even farther abroad, despite protests that it is still the best land for agriculture.

Charmo is a rambling journey through the fields, villages, homes, government offices, and markets of Iraq and Iraqi Kurdistan-- searching for clues that may reveal what has happened to the birthplace of agriculture.
