Synopsis

RED FATHER follows Bernard Ades, whose life was marked by the upheaval of historical events. A Jewish lawyer radicalized by the Great Depression of the nineteen thirties. Ades joins the Communist Party. At a great cost to his law career, under the auspices of the party, Ades confronts the systemic legal racism in Maryland. He later joins the International Brigades in Spain only to return home to an era of Mccarthyism, black listings and surveillance.

In the film Janet Ades, his daughter, examines her father's legacy. While she looks up to her father, admiring his wisdom, his generosity and his world outlook, she also questions his ideology, it's implementation and her father's involvement with the Communist Party.
