Synopsis

The Restless Conscience is a film documenting the resistance to Hitler inside Nazi Germany from 1933 to 1945. It is a powerful and provocative documentary feature that explores the motivations of the anti-Nazi resisters whose actions also included numerous attempts on Hitler's life.

The film is a deeply moving portrayal of individual destinies, charting with dramatic power, passion and depth the development of the underground resistance. Focusing on the moral and political evolution of the resisters, The Restless Conscience examines issues raised by ethical and political dissent in totalitarian regimes. As it traces the origin and development of the domestic anti-Nazi underground, The Restless Conscience highlights the conflict between an individual's responsibility to a personal ethical code and to the national political system. The film addresses a crucial issue: the mass extermination of Jews by Nazi Germany's governmental instruments, and the response of the German resisters.
