A biographical documentary feature on one of the unsung heroes of comic art and inspiration to a generation. This story follows Will Elder from his Depression era days in The Bronx, NY to the pinnacle of pop culture comic art and illustration in the 1950s and 60s. MAD publisher, Bill Gaines, called Will, "The funniest artist MAD ever had. Just pure mayhem." Terry Gilliam, Hugh Hefner, Joe Dante, Art Spiegelman and many others relate the importance of this singular artist on comedy, art and the infusion of Jewish culture and idioms into mainstream American humor and thought, Never-before-seen interviews with MAD's first co-creator, Harvey Kurtzman MAD publisher Bill Gaines and a rare interview with Playboy's Hugh Hefner. Chicken Fat: The Legacy of Will Elder brings us on a journey through the development of art, humor and satire during the McCarthy era into the late 1960s and the birth of Underground Comix.
