Italian Chefs has a short series format.
The first five episodes are in two formats 12 and 26 minutes.
The dialogue is light and elegantly accompanied by very precise cinematic images. Included are: aerial footage of each location, slow-motion tracking shots during recipe preparation, mouth-watering close-up shots of ingredients and of course perfectly plated final dishes. The interviews with the chefs are done with great attention to detail, along the lines of the Netflix series "Chef's Table."
How is a recipe born? What does food represent? We walk around the city seeing archeological wonders from ancient Rome just steps from a restaurant’s door. We follow the protagonist to the market to do the shopping, as they select the perfect local artichoke or herb varieties. We climb on board a boat to get up close and personal with the catch of the day and to learn about the fisherman’s favorite type of fish. We see rare breed cinta senese pigs foraging in the countryside and take a horse ride to discover a chef’s equestrian passion. Each episode always includes the presentation of dishes that hold special significance to the chef.
Have they received any awards? How and when did they get a Michelin star? What are their most significant memories? To enrich each episode, we have included private videos and archive photos given to us by the chef to show them as a child, to see them cooking at their first restaurant or enjoying their moments of greatest satisfaction.
The uniqueness of this series is the interweaving of each chef's personal story with the recipes and the identity of the place as well as seeing who the chef is outside the kitchen and learning about their other passions.
Italian Chefs
The beginning of each episode is characterized by a quintessential sentence spoken by the chef about their cooking philosophy paired with slow-motion images showing their other main passion in life besides cooking, which is always something interesting and often unexpected like surfing or playing in a punk band.
For each of the chefs that we follow, there will be testimonials from their wives, husbands, relatives or very close collaborators who will give an external point of view about the chef.
