- Synopsis
Cuba People to People – Roses, Cars & Wings, an indie short foreign travel documentary video prepared after visiting Cuba in January 2017, takes advantage of President Obama's People to People Cuban Policy. This video features professor and dancer NYC Hostos-CUNY Linguistics Professor Gail August, PhD. It has since been picked up by many film festivals in the US and in consideration by others around the world.
This short documentary shows the importance for both sets of citizens to connect on many levels. This connection includes acknowledging that different points of view and histories will broaden respect for the other country. The use of a white friendship rose, inspired by Cuban visionary Jose Marti’s poem from the 1870s, symbolizes building a foundation for friendship in spite of the ideological conflict between our countries for over 6 decades.
The heart of the film is the professor interacting with the local children.
