- Synopsis
In a world that is becoming more and more mechanized, what is the value of lived human experience? California “light and space” artist Robert Irwin has been investigating this question all his life. He began as a painter in LA’s “Cool School” scene, but abandoned object-making to pursue pure dialog, philosophy, and experimentation. Rejecting art world fame to create experimental installations, Irwin developed a new way of working that made perception itself the subject. Irwin tells the story in his own words, supplemented with archival interviews, new interviews with Irwin and his colleagues, and immersive footage of Irwin’s artworks.
