The Heart of Amilcar Cabral

The Heart of Amílcar Cabral is essentially a hero’s journey about one man’s quest to liberate his people from colonization. The film focuses on the emotional strains in the transformation of a humble agronomist to a national figure of prominence. Yet, this film is more than a so-called biopic; it is also about Cape Verde being involved as a proxy between the ideological war between Communist USSR and Capitalist US. More abstractedly, this film is about agency, whether or not a man, or a country, has agency in a world shaped by two global powers.
