Synopsis

Flamenco is deeply rooted in the land of its birth, southern Spain's Andalucia, home to the "cradle of flamenco" where we filmed our documentary. It's a small region in and around Jerez de la Frontera (in Andalucia), formerly a city dependent upon agriculture and farm laborers, many of whom sang flamenco as they worked. The connection between flamenco and manual labor is important, as we show in this documentary. In addition, the connection between flamenco and "gitanos" (Spanish Gypsies) is the source of endless speculation. We look at all these topics drawing on great performances, rich images of Jerez & Andalucia and also of Rajasthan (presumed area where the gitanos originated), plus a narration given by a professional gitano flamenco singer - Antonio de la Malena - who has performed on every continent except for Australia and Antarctica.
