JOHN LEWIS: GET IN THE WAY premiered on national prime time PBS in February 2017 as a feature of Black History Month. A riveting portrait of Lewis’ personal journey of courage, hard-won triumphs and searing disappointments, the film challenges viewers to stand up, speak out, resolve to take action and Get in the Way.

The son of sharecroppers, John Lewis grew up in rural isolation, seemingly destined for a bleak future in the Jim Crow South of the 1940s. But he took a different path, rising from Alabama’s Black Belt to the corridors of power on Capitol Hill, his humble origins forever linking him to those whose voices often go unheard.

Get in the Way features Lewis, a masterful storyteller, relating the gripping tale of his role as a student activist in some of the most brutal confrontations of the Civil Rights Movement and later, as a congressman deeply committed to challenge injustice through policy and action.
